An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or even another adverb — telling us how, when, where, or to what degree something happens.
Most adverbs answer the question “how?” and many end in -ly: quickly, quietly, carefully. But not all adverbs follow that pattern — words like very, always, soon, and here are adverbs too.
Examples: She sings beautifully (modifies the verb “sings”). He is extremely tired (modifies the adjective “tired”). The bus arrived very late (modifies the adverb “late”). Quick practice: find the adverb in “The turtle moved slowly across the yard.” (Answer: slowly.)
